Mel’s Chilli Sauce started in a home kitchen in KZN, not as a big idea, but as a way to make things work
What began as a small side hustle, selling food to friends, family, and locals, quickly turned into something people kept coming back for. One simple addition of chilli to a homemade sauce changed everything. It brought a depth of flavour that stood out, and before long, the sauce became the highlight.
Encouraged by the people around her, Mel kept refining it. Batch by batch, recipe by recipe, always focused on getting the balance right, heat that’s bold, but never overpowering, and flavour that works with just about anything.
In 2005, Mel made the decision to turn this into something more than a side hustle. What started small became a full-time journey.
Today, Mel’s Chilli Sauce is still made with that same mindset: no shortcuts, no overcomplication, just honest ingredients and a recipe that works.
